María de Los Ángeles Marulanda Idrobo, CCB student, has been highlighted as a leader during her exchange program at Givat Haviva International School (GHIS) located in northern Israel. Thanks to the School’s partnership with the  Latin American Heads Conference (LAHC), our student had the opportunity to travel to Israel to continue her studies in an IB World School as ours while profiting from this life changing experience.

For Maria de los Angeles it has not been easy to be so far away from her family. However she has given her best effort to continue her academic education abroad, learning about other cultures, sharing with classmates from Israel, Russia, and other nationalities.

“I feel good in spite of everything, being alone in a new country for me, knowing that this will be beneficial for me,” said María de los Ángeles.

“My day-to-day life starts at 8:15 am until 2:25 pm or 3:00 pm. When I have space I go to my room to do homework or to the learning center, I watch my classes and share with everyone at lunchtime, sometimes we can go out to eat or go to the beach, it is a quiet and very united environment,” said María de los Ángeles.

GHIS opened in August 2018 for students from Israel and around the world. Our aim is to create a group of diverse international and Israeli leaders with the skills and desire to work towards building a more equitable and sustainable future. In this institution María de los Ángeles will understand the way in which working alongside her community she manages to highlight the values of social justice, equality, interculturalism and cooperation.

“I have learned a lot in this school environment. You are studying with different people, you are living with them, you share all kinds of experiences. Here you meet many cultures and you never impose anything on anyone.” said María de los Ángeles.

We know that María de los Ángeles is acquiring the best learning experience for her life, one that blends academics and personal development in a game changing way. It has even given her some insight into her future career choices.

“I want to finish the IB and go to Canada or New York. I want to study criminology. There are universities that have very good degrees. I want to show that I have all the capabilities. It is difficult to switch from your home country to a foreign one, but I am willing to let life teach me. I must continue.” concluded María de los Ángeles.
