Mateo Payán Sarria, from grade 12C, clinched the individual first place and the team trophy representing Colombia at the 2024 Amateur Invitational Tournament ‘Copa Aníbal ‘Rocky’ Galindo’, held at the Panama Golf Club on Sunday, March 10th.
Mateo showed from the very first hole that he had what it took to claim victory, overtaking his rival Juan Fernando Castellanos, who was leading by two strokes. By the 5th hole, Mateo had taken the lead, which he held onto until the end, with a score of 69 strokes (one under par), as reported by the Colombian Golf Federation.
As if that wasn’t enough, Mateo, along with his teammate Juan Carlos Velásquez, both products of the Junior division, secured the team trophy representing Colombia by defeating a duo of Venezuelan golfers.
Congratulations to Mateo for the outstanding performance in this international competition! An inspiration to all our young golfers!

Mateo Payán Sarria, del grado 12C, logró el primer puesto individual y el trofeo por equipos representando a Colombia en el Torneo Invitaciones Amateur ‘Copa Aníbal ‘Rocky’ Galindo’ 2024, en el Club de Golf de Panamá, realizado el domingo 10 de marzo.
Mateo demostró desde el primer hoyo que tenía lo que se requería para quedarse con el triunfo, y superar a su rival Juan Fernando Castellanos quien se encontraba en el liderato con dos golpes. Hacia el hoyo 5, Mateo sacó la delantera que retuvo hasta el final, con una tarjeta con 69 golpes (uno bajo par), según informó la Federación Colombiana de Golf.
Por si fuera poco, Mateo, junto con su compañero Juan Carlos Velásquez, ambos formados en la división Junior, se llevaron el trofeo de equipo representando a Colombia al imponerse ante una dupla de golfistas de Venezuela.
