Jacobo Robledo won his place on the podium after participating in the Regional Valid Regional Squash Circuit in Palmira where he took third place in the children’s category 9 to 11 years this past March. This bronze medal has meant pride and experience for his next challenges in the sport.

“It was the first time I was competing in a formal way, which is why I was a bit anxious. Additionally, he was the youngest of the participants. There were participants that he could not beat, because of his age and physical strength. However, other older participants did not have his technique and he understood that by making an effort he could beat them, which finally happened,” said Didhy Gómez, Jacobo’s mother.

For 4 years Jacobo has been training Squash on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. He is fully dedicated to polish every move to be the winner inside those four walls, his strongest feature is his clean technique that gives him an edge over the others and convinces him of his talent.

“I’m not the best but I always want to win and when I go on the squash court I only think about winning. Being attentive is the most difficult thing in this sport, you have to be quick on your feet because the ball is not always going to land at your feet,” said Jacobo.

The confidence that Jacobo reflects when he speaks is the same confidence that drives him to achieve great results. His father used to play squash as a child, but stopped some time later, but Jacobo’s passion has inspired him to take up the sport again.

“My mom took me to the Club Campestre and I started taking squash lessons, I started to practice and my dad also decided to take lessons and started to enjoy it again,” said Jacobo.

“As parents we have always been concerned about instilling a love for the sport, regardless of the modality. After having played several sports such as tennis, horse riding, football, golf, swimming and squash, the latter was his preference,” said his mother, Didhy.

Great sporting challenges lie ahead for Jacobo, who will surely face them with the same tenacity with which he seeks to beat his rivals.
